About
DEDICATED SINCE 1902
Known for its endless forests and untouched wilderness, Sweden is a sportsman’s paradise. Rich in moose, deer, and many other small game species, Sweden’s unbridled landscape has the inspiration for ammunition development and manufacturing. Located in the small town of Åmotfors, near the Norwegian border, Norma meticulously designed and manufactured ammunition with world-leading standards for 120 years.
Norma’s team of engineers and product designers are dedicated to providing a better solution for the sportsman. The first example of this happened when Karl Wang, Norma’s ballistic engineer, developed a process in which the bullet was given a “tail” with a small angle known today as a boat tail. This process provided Norma the secret to an accurate bullet and an advantage over our competitors.
Our passion for product design and development make the Norma name synonymous with innovation and exceptional performance, regardless of shooting discipline. The match shooting arena is dominated by the 6mm Norma BR (Bench Rest), followed by the highly accurate Norma 6XC caliber. The 6.5-284 Norma is one of the first long-range cartridges with both military sniper and hunting applications. The 7×61 mm Sharpe & Hart, .308 Norma Magnum, and .358 Norma Magnum are all well-known magnum cartridges developed by Norma; later followed by the .300 Norma Magnum and the .338 Norma Magnum.
Today, Norma produces the world’s most reliable brass case and a portfolio of highly accurate, precisely engineered projectiles that cover a wide variety of usage cases in both hunting and shooting. Norma also expanded into new ammunition categories such as rimfire, pistol, revolver and airgun, all produced with the same attention to precision and quality that Norma is known for.
For avid hunters and shooters alike, who demand exceptional performance and consistent reliability, Norma offers everything you need. Now, it’s up to you.
Our Partners
Our long-term partnerships with renowned companies in the industry play an important role in Norma’s successful heritage.
In cooperation with the leading German rifle manufacturer Blaser, Norma developed a brand-new generation of high-performance cartridges, the Blaser Magnums.
No existing calibers are copied. Instead, the latest ammunition technology is applied to achieve the optimum performance in each caliber group.
The Blaser Magnum calibers are made under both the Blaser and Norma brands. Norma offers additional loads under our own company label.
Norma and Weatherby – 60 years of close cooperation
Norma’s development over the years is closely linked to Weatherby, so much that we dare say Norma would not have become who we are today without this cooperation. Norma´s legendary engineer, Nils Kvale, a Norwegian army major, started the cooperation with Weatherby some 60 years ago. At present, 14 calibers from .224 Wby to .460 Wby are manufactured by Norma, using bullets from Nosler, Barnes, and Hornady. The result is an impressive assortment of 81 premium loads of flat shooting, hard-hitting, and superbly accurate cartridges.
Production Facilities
For more than 100 years, small arms ammunition has been manufactured at Norma Precision AB in Åmotfors. Therefore, more than a century of industrial tradition and know-how supports a steady stream of hunting and shooting products coming from our Swedish factory.
In this movie, we show the meticulous process of how CFR cartridges are made in the very factory that produces today’s world class cartridges and components that have been there all the way from our start in 1902.
However, over the years, Norma has evolved into a full supplier of ammunition for both consumer and professional markets. Today, we offer not only centerfire rifle ammunition, but also rimfire, pistol and revolver, shotgun, airgun, and a full assortment of components for reloading. Everything is created in our production facilities and R&D departments all around the world. The combined strength of R&D and the production and supply chain within the internationally renowned group of RUAG Ammotec, gives Norma the edge to stay in front when it comes to innovation, quality, and consistency.
