National Public Health Laboratory | Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers
The Ministry of Health, Mongolia, plans to build a new facility for the National Centre for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) as part of its initiative to provide a safe and efficient national lab and resource center for communicable diseases. Bancroft-AE performed schematic design and space planning for a new 6-story facility, based on programmatic guidelines outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO).
BSL-3 Laboratory Upgrade | Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft provided pre-planning and full architectural and engineering services to re-develop multiple standard operational protocols (SOP's) for both the researchers and physical plant for the new BSL3 suites at the Zablocki VA in Milwaukee, WI. The intended use of this specialized lab is to further the research and testing of select agents.
OR-GI-ONC Renovation | Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers
This multi-phased project consists of full renovations of the OR, Gastrointestinology, and Oncology departments. The 9,700 SF GI remodeling consolidates procedure rooms and clinical spaces with the supporting doctors' offices that were previously scattered throughout the hospital. A light-filled and enlarged waiting room and reception area gives patients and family a non-institutional first impression.
Pediatric Research Department | Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers
This programming and relocation project for the Pediatric Department included the removal of existing interior walls and laboratory casework to create a new open lab concept to foster greater collaboration, flanked by specialty tissue culture rooms and related support spaces.
Cancer Research Center | Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers
The Cancer Research Center is a new two story 24,000 sq. ft. research building attached to the present University of Illinois College of Medicine building. Bancroft-AE designed the laboratories and support spaces within the building, featuring a 3,850 sq. ft.
Optical Research Facility | Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers was responsible for the planning and design of a 1,100sq.ft. facility for experimental optical condensed matter physics in the Technology Institute building at Northwestern University. Central to the research is the installation of (3) large optical equipment tables. Key features include HEPA filtered air washing over the optical tables to minimize particle contamination.
Phlebotomy & Specimen Lab | Bancroft Architects + Engineers
Bancroft Architects + Engineers
This laboratory department renovation includes the complete redesign of Phlebotomy, Core Blood Testing lab, Histology, Cytology, Microbiology, and administration areas using "Lean" process flows. User meetings consisted primarily of reviewing the flow of specimens through the lab. In identifying these processes we were able to propose a new plan that streamlines the process and minimizes travel distances and handoff errors.

About
Bancroft Architects + Engineers was originally founded by Paul Jenkins as a service-disabled Veteran owned engineering firm, dedicated to pioneering the efficient design of highly technical electrical and mechanical systems. Jenkins, a fourth generation Navy Veteran, named his new company in honor of the late Secretary of the Navy, George Bancroft, who established the United States Naval Academy in 1845. The trademark signature that forms Bancroft’s company logo is actually the signature of George Bancroft, used with permission.
By 2009, Geo. Bancroft Engineering had earned its CVE certification as a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and had grown to 11 full-time engineers, each with sterling academic credentials that include multiple and advanced degrees from the world’s top schools. With mechanical, electrical, civil, and aerospace engineers, Geo. Bancroft Engineering offered clients a range of engineering services, backed by a portfolio of project experience unlike any other set-aside firm in America.
Recognizing the need to broaden its scope of design expertise, Jenkins purchased one of the region’s most respected small architectural firms, Facilities Solutions Group, in 2011. Known for their precision in designing intensely complex facilities for scientific, military, and life sciences clients around the world, Facilities Solutions Group had the added advantage of an impeccable project history that extends back into the late 1990s. The name of the merged firm, Bancroft Architects + Engineers, reflects both the legacy of the original company with the historical connection the Jenkins family has to the Navy and Naval Academy as well as the full range of services on offer.
Now with 25 full-time architects and engineers working from regional offices around the United States (Arlington, Virginia; New Orleans; and San Jose, California) in addition to the Illinois headquarters, Bancroft continues to grow. Given that three of its offices (Chicago, Arlington, and New Orleans) are led by service-disabled Veterans, it’s clear the firm has remained true to its roots in the service.Since its inception, Bancroft has every year earned the distinction of being named one of America’s Top 100 Diversity-Led Small Businesses, and was listed among America’s Top 500 Engineering Firms in both 2010 and 2011. In 2012 Bancroft Architects + Engineers was the first firm to earn the Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business certification for the State of Illinois.
