The construction of this school was initiated by the then Minister of Defense and Security, Jenderal TNI LB Moerdani on 20 May 1985 at Pendopo Agung Taman Siswa Yogyakarta. Jenderal TNI LB Moerdani has a vision to build a school that educates the best people from all over Indonesia and produces graduates who can continue the aspirations of the Proclaimer.

For the realization of this idea, a MoU / memorandum of understanding was created between TNI and Taman Siswa. Perguruan Taman Siswa was selected because it was the first educational organization in Indonesia.
