HELZEL-OTHR systems are dual-use systems and can be used for oceanographic applications as well. The data of an OTHR system can be processed on a separate server in parallel providing data like a WERA ocean radar. These oceanographic
data are valuable for applications like : Ocean current measurements, Drift Prediction supporting Search and
Rescue and environmental protection, Tsunami signature detection, Wave height measurements.

Description
The key competence of the HELZEL team is the expertise in HF techniques, in particular in over-the-horizon radar technology. This includes the required signal processing hardware and software. The HELZEL high-frequency over-the-horizon radar OTHR uses fast and accurate software beam-forming utilising an automatic self-calibration technique. The low-noise, non-interrupted FMCW operation mode provides the best range / power performance on the OTHR market. This allows operation with quite low power levels (1 kW) to get a range of up to 200 Nautical Miles
