The National Gas FutureGrid site included above-ground transmission infrastructure, compressors, valves, piping, and other transmission-related equipment supporting evaluation of hydrogen and methane blend scenarios. These environments provided a realistic testing platform for understanding emissions behavior across both existing natural gas systems and infrastructure being evaluated for future hydrogen integration.
The project formed part of broader efforts to assess operational readiness, emissions visibility, and infrastructure adaptability as hydrogen integration continues to expand across the energy sector.
EmissionsTrack™ enabled continuous detection and localization of emissions events across multiple infrastructure types, helping operators better understand how varying gas compositions and environmental conditions influenced emissions behavior throughout the facility.
The deployment also demonstrated the flexibility of wireless continuous monitoring architectures across large-scale transmission-style environments. By combining multi-gas detection with wind-aware localization capabilities, the system provided actionable operational insight across evolving gas network conditions.
In addition, the project supported broader FutureGrid objectives related to hydrogen transition readiness and infrastructure evaluation. Continuous emissions data provided greater visibility into how monitoring technologies may support future hydrogen deployment scenarios across evolving energy networks.
NevadaNano deployed MethaneTrack™ to provide continuous methane monitoring at wellhead locations, with a focus on detecting emissions directly at the source. Endpoints were installed near key leak points, including rod packing on pumpjacks and critical interfaces on wellhead assemblies.
This close-proximity approach enables detection of short-duration and intermittent emissions that are often missed by traditional monitoring methods. By capturing emissions at the point of release, MethaneTrack™ provides higher-fidelity data on when and where leaks occur. This level of visibility is critical when trying to understand operational vs fugitive emissions.
In addition to detection capability, the system was designed to operate reliably in harsh environmental conditions, ensuring continuous performance across seasonal extremes with minimal maintenance requirements.
Proven and ScalableEmissionsTrack™ is used by global Tier 1 operators in 22 countries, both onshore and offshore.
Low Maintenance and Extremely Robust Hardware
The EmissionsTrack™ battery powered wireless emissions detectors can be mounted on existing infrastructure. A typical site installation can be completed by a single technician in just a few hours – enabling installation of several sites per day per installer. The low-power, small form factor eliminates wiring costs and solar panel costs, and expensive installation. The detectors are purpose-built for harsh conditions with an operating range of -40°C to 75°C and 100% RH. They are certified intrinsically safe for Class I, Division 1 (FM, CSA) and Zone 0 (ATEX, IECEx), with IP65 ingress protection. The detectors have a battery life of 5 years and a sensor life of 15 years with no required field calibration, making them idea for remote, hard-to-reach locations.
Comprehensive Analytics and Reporting Dashboard
Emissions tracking and compliance are made easy with a comprehensive analytics and reporting dashboard that provides visibility across every level—from enterprise to individual sites and assets. Users can visualize the precise location and size of emissions, while real-time alerts automatically notify the right teams to take action. The system empowers users to focus on their specific areas of responsibility and clearly distinguish between operational and fugitive emissions. Simplified regulatory compliance is achieved through customizable and pre-built reports that reduce the cost of emissions tracking and reporting with automated tabulation of total emissions. Historical data validation enables users to demonstrate compliance performance across sites, regions, and countries, supporting OGMP and emission regulations. Designed to meet the needs of operators, executives, regulators, and shareholders alike, the platform ensures actionable insights and transparency for every stakeholder.
