Compressed sheet gasket products combine fiber, binder, and filler materials into a dense sheet material. This structure allows each gasket to compress and seal uneven flange surfaces.
Common components include:
- Aramid fiber and aramid fibre for strength
- Synthetic fibers for durability
- Elastomer binder such as nitrile binder or sbr binder
- Graphite for thermal stability in select grades
This mix forms a non-asbestos sheet that replaces traditional asbestos products while maintaining performance.
Each compressed sheet provides strong torque retention. This helps the gasket maintain a seal during pressure cycles.
Gasket Sheeting Performance and Seal ReliabilityHTX Products designs gasket sheeting to deliver consistent seal performance. Each compressed gasket adapts to flange surfaces and fills small gaps.
Key performance features include:
- High compress strength for tight sealing
- Stable seal under heat and pressure
- Resistance to oil, water, gas, and chemicals
- Low creep and strong recovery after load cycles
Compressed sheet gasket material performs well in systems that use gas, steam, or liquid flow. The material holds its shape and supports long-term sealing.
Non-Asbestos Sheet Gasket Options with Aramid FiberHTX Products offers non-asbestos sheet solutions for safe and effective sealing. These gasket materials use aramid fiber and elastomer binder systems to replace asbestos.
Available material options include:
- Aramid fiber sheet for general industrial use
- Carbon and graphite blends for high heat
- Nitrile-based compressed fiber sheet for oil resistance
- Neoprene and other elastomer blends for flexible sealing
Each gasket sheet meets strict quality standards. These materials provide a balance of strength, flexibility, and chemical resistance.
Custom Sheet Gasket Manufacturing and Sheeting CapabilitiesHTX Products converts sheeting into custom gasket shapes with precision cutting methods. Our team produces each sheet gasket to match exact system requirements.
We support:
- Standard ASME flange gasket sizes
- Custom gasket designs from drawings or samples
- Thickness options across a wide compressed sheet range, as thin as 1/64” and can be die-cut to fit ASME B16.5 flanges or customized to any required shape and size
- Tanged and reinforced gasket configurations for added strength
Our process ensures each gasket fits correctly and creates a reliable seal at installation.
Compressed Gasket Material Applications Across IndustriesCompressed gasket material supports many industrial systems. These gasket solutions perform well in both standard and high-demand environments.
Common applications include:

Each gasket resists chemical exposure and mechanical stress. This allows the seal to remain stable during operation.
Premium Compressed Sheet Gasketing with Reliable Binder SystemsHTX Products supplies premium compressed sheet materials that use advanced binder systems. These binder materials control flexibility and sealing strength.
Binder options include:
- Nitrile binder for oil and fuel resistance
- SBR binder for water, steam, and air systems
Each elastomer binder supports proper compress behavior. This helps the gasket form a tight seal without failure.

A Ring Type Joint (RTJ) gasket is a precision-machined metallic ring used for metal-to-metal sealing applications in high-pressure, high-temperature flange connections. As torque is applied, the gasket plastically deforms to fill the flange groove, ensuring a reliable, leak-tight seal. Because of their ability to maintain integrity under extreme loads, RTJ gaskets are widely used in oil, gas, petrochemical, and industrial systems where failure is not an option.
Keep reading to learn about different types of RTJ gaskets available from HTX Products, common materials used to manufacture them, and examples of oil and gas applications that rely on them.
R-Type: Oval And OctagonalThe R-Type is the most common RTJ gasket, available in oval and octagonal cross-sections. Because these gaskets seal by deforming under pressure, they must be made from material softer than the corresponding mating flange. The oval design is compatible with bottom radius grooves, while the octagonal shape has a higher sealing coefficient. R-Type gaskets are rated up to 10,000 psi and manufactured in accordance with ASME B16.20 and API 6A. They are a dependable choice for general refinery, chemical, and pipeline service.
RX-TypeRX-Type RTJs feature a pressure-energized design that enhances the seal as internal pressure increases. This makes them ideal for systems subject to vibration or fluctuating pressure. They are interchangeable with R-Type flanges and are suitable for pressures from 1000 bar. These gaskets are well-suited to high pressures, heavy weight loads and vibration in blowout preventer (BOP) stacks.
SBX-Type And BX-TypeBX-Type and SBX-Type RTJs are used exclusively with 6BX flanges and 16BX hubs. Their trapezoidal geometry and pressure-balancing holes allow them to withstand extreme operating conditions up to 20,000 psi. These gaskets are commonly used in critical oilfield components, such as blowout preventers, choke and kill manifolds, and subsea wellhead systems.
The SBX profile incorporates modified angles and sealing geometry to improve load distribution and gasket compression under pressure. They also feature intersecting vent holes that facilitate seal formation underwater. Type Gaskets are made from non-corrosive material, in compliance with API 17D.
Kammprofile GasketsThese gaskets combine a precision-machined serrated metal core with a soft facing material (i.e., expanded graphite, mica, PTFE). They create a high-integrity seal at comparatively low bolt loads and are frequently used in heat exchangers.
Lens RingsFeaturing spherical seating surfaces, lens rings naturally self-align under compression. They are mechanically stable and resist blow-out in high temperature and high pressure applications like heat exchangers, reactor vessels, and petrochemical operations.
Rubber-Coated RTJsThese gaskets feature a machined steel core with an oil-resistant nitrile coating that protects flange surfaces. They are often used for pressure testing of blowout preventers (BOPs), Christmas tree valves, and other wellhead components.
Industrial piping systems, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers operate under immense stress, such as high pressures, fluctuating temperatures, and constant vibration. In these environments, the seal between two metal surfaces is often the weakest link, and a single failure can result in costly downtime or hazardous leaks. Spiral wound gaskets were developed to solve that problem.
Spiral wound gaskets combine the strength of metal with the flexibility of a soft filler. This hybrid construction allows them to maintain a tight, reliable seal even when exposed to pressure surges, thermal expansion, or flange misalignment. The gasket compresses evenly under bolt load but recovers elastically when the load or temperature changes, ensuring continuous sealing performance in dynamic operating conditions.
Spiral wound gaskets are often preferred by refineries, chemical plants, and power stations because they deliver dependable performance where failure isn’t an option. They are equally at home in marine systems, paper mills, and high-purity applications that demand both mechanical resilience and chemical resistance. From ASME pressure vessels to DIN and JIS process piping, these gaskets are engineered to fit a wide range of standard flange dimensions and ratings, making them one of the most versatile solutions for industrial sealing.
