"Making tubular connections has traditionally
been a very manual and labor-intensive process,” explains Mark Taggart, Director
Business Development, HMH. “With our Bulldog Roughnecks we automate key aspects
of this operation, helping reduce manual intervention while supporting a more
consistent workflow. The system significantly reduces manual intervention,
minimizing the risk of workplace injuries.”
By addressing the fundamental challenges of
traditional systems, the Bulldog Iron Roughneck automates and streamlines
tubular connections, greatly enhancing operational efficiency and reliability,
while ensuring workers remain clear of hazardous operations.
Key Features Bulldog BD120/BD160
■ Rapid Connection Time: HMH’s roughnecks are engineered to automate the
connection process, completing tubular connections in an average of
approximately 25 seconds per pipe. This helps reduce cycle times and supports
efficient rig operations.
■ 360-Degree Multipoint
Contact System: The system provides
consistent clamp force, helps minimize pipe distortion, and achieves recorded
torque accuracy within 1.5%. By distributing force evenly across six dies, the roughneck
is designed to manage high torque requirements on smaller pipe diameters.
■ Full Automation: All HMH BD Series roughnecks incorporate
programmable pipe tables, an interactive HMI, and remote troubleshooting
capabilities through TechLink™. These features support operational consistency,
troubleshooting, and maintenance planning.
■
Flexible Delivery Systems: The roughnecks are available with adaptable arm
delivery systems, including HMH's 5-link arm configuration and a compact
rotating carriage design, providing flexibility for different rig layouts and
operating requirements.
The HMH Bulldog BD120 and BD 160 are part of HMH's
portfolio of automated drilling solutions designed to support safer and more
efficient tubular connection operations while reducing the need for manual
intervention.
