Louisiana’s momentum is backed by investments in innovation across autonomous systems, shipbuilding and advanced defense manufacturing, including Bollinger Shipyards’ work building Arctic Security Cutters for the U.S. Coast Guard, Saronic Technologies’ $300 million investment to expand autonomous vessel manufacturing, and growing U.S.-based drone manufacturing. Together, these projects represent more than new production capacity. They signal long-term confidence in Louisiana as a hub for aerospace and defense manufacturing, innovation and logistics.
The state’s momentum is also taking flight in Advanced Air Mobility. At Houma-Terrebonne Airport — one of the nation’s busiest rotorcraft airports and the aviation backbone of Gulf offshore energy — Louisiana is advancing LIFTOff Louisiana, one of only eight projects selected nationwide for the FAA’s eVTOL and Advanced Air Mobility Integration Pilot Program. The initiative will test autonomous and electric aircraft for cargo and personnel missions to offshore and coastal energy sites across the Gulf of America energy corridor. By pairing innovators such as Elroy Air and Bristow with an established, high-traffic commercial airport, Louisiana is turning real-world operations into the safety data that will help shape national AAM rules — positioning the state at the leading edge of the next era of flight.
The state’s aerospace business environment is built around secure operations, faster project delivery and major capital investment. New policies improve protections for critical aerospace assets, modernize aviation regulations, streamline development for qualifying facilities, expand incentives for large-scale aerospace projects and create greater legal certainty for aerospace flight activities.
