Bulge Forming is a process that involves hydraulically expanding a rubber bladder within a pressure vessel, containing a sheet metal blank, to create a predetermined shape reflected by the inner contour of the pressure vessel. Driven by customer needs for a unique product, McStarlite designed and built two bulge form presses to participate in this arena of exotic metal forming.
Bulge forming, used in the manufacture of missile nose cones and fuel tanks, demands familiarity with the sophisticated properties of metal as associated with pressure application.
