Description
LE BOURGET, FRANCE – June 16, 2025 – Astronautics Corporation of America’s next generation flight data interface management unit (nFDIMU) debuts as the line-fit solution for Airbus’ new A321XLR passenger jet, as a selectable catalog option for their A320neo family of aircraft, and is scheduled to be the line-fit solution for the A320neo family starting in 2026.
The Astronautics nFDIMU is a hardware and software solution that compiles, records, and processes data to improve aircraft operations and optimize maintenance. The solution adds new features that improve performance and add capabilities that benefit airlines by:
▪ Recording and processing real-time data from more than 60 aircraft systems, including sending data to the flight data recorder and health monitoring data to the aircraft condition monitoring system (ACMS).
▪ Enhancing security and robustness with a partitioned operating system creating a cybersecure barrier between avionics and open-world domains.
▪ Increasing data storage and adding 50 times more processing power with less weight.
▪ Creating a common solution compatible with XLR and neo aircraft, thereby standardizing operations for mixed fleets.
Astronautics has also developed the ground enhanced programming and reading tool (GEPART) as part of its nFDIMU solution for Airbus. This web-based tool is hosted, managed, and distributed by Airbus Digital Services. GEPART enables airlines to monitor and manage flight and maintenance data to enhance operational fleet efficiency and easily customize the parameters of their ACMS reports.
“Airlines flying with Astronautics' nFDIMU will experience performance benefits from its new design that will translate into cost savings by avoiding unscheduled maintenance and enhancing aircraft operations,” said Robert Atac, Astronautics president. “Our Astronautics customer support teams, together with Airbus teams, are ready to help these airlines enter service with this new solution.”
The nFDIMU entered service on the A321XLR in October 2024 and became a selectable catalog option on the A320/321neo in 2025. Astronautics’ nFDIMU has European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification for Airbus’ A318/A319/A320/A320neo/A321XLR platforms.
Astronautics has been a trusted supplier to Airbus for 20 years, providing their network server system on the Airbus A400M transport and AeroSync connectivity products on Airbus’ H125, H130, H145, and H160 helicopters.
