Slack
Salesforce
Slack, owned by Salesforce since 2021, is a secure, AI-powered work platform that organises communication and collaboration into searchable channels rather than scattered emails and threads. It combines real-time messaging, huddles, file sharing, workflow automation and deep third-party integrations with AI capabilities like Slackbot, Enterprise Search and Agentforce, letting teams knit people, data and tools together in one place.

For Public Sector organisations, Slack acts as a secure digital HQ that helps agencies meet mission-critical goals within a compliant, FedRAMP-authorised environment. Channels give agency teams central spaces for conversations, files and tools, while Slack Connect enables interagency work by uniting government employees, contractors, nonprofits and citizens in real time — the U.S. General Services Administration has named it its "preferred method for collaborating."

Agencies use Workflow Builder to automate weekly reporting, track IT tickets and let citizens report issues, while GovSlack's FedRAMP High authorisation (USA) supports the processing and storing of sensitive data. Real-world impact includes the VA's web team relaunching VA.gov with 99.97% uptime, NASA JPL accessing nearly everything from one platform, and a federal cybersecurity agency using Slack to coordinate cross-sector response to a national security incident — showing how Slack removes silos and speeds up mission-critical, cross-agency work.

Tableau from Salesforce
Salesforce
Tableau is a market-leading business intelligence and analytics platform, now part of Salesforce, built to help people see and understand data. It offers an end-to-end solution — from connecting and preparing data through to visual analysis and collaboration — with a drag-and-drop interface that means no coding or technical skills are required. Its capabilities span machine learning, statistics, natural language and, more recently, agentic AI through tools like Tableau Pulse and Tableau Agent, helping teams move from a single metric to a confident decision faster.

For Public Sector organisations, Tableau helps agencies solve challenges, build trust and achieve their mission more effectively by turning fragmented data into clear, actionable insights. Government agencies use Tableau to conduct ad hoc reporting instantly, monitor policy implementation, track resource allocation and evaluate service delivery in real time — supporting transparency, public engagement and performance tracking across areas like public health, transportation and emergency management.

With secure, governable access to data from multiple sources, Public Sector employees can discover new insights, shave months off reporting timelines and make confident, evidence-based decisions — whether that's central government departments analysing nationwide datasets or local agencies optimising community programs and services.

M88A2 HERCULES Recovery Vehicle
BAE Systems

With the lowest acquisition, operational and maintenance cost of any 70-ton capable recovery system, HERCULES answers the need for cost-effective, self-supporting heavy recovery performance.

The HERCULES was the primary 70-ton recovery system during Operation Iraqi Freedom. And, U.S. troops found a few other creative uses for its capabilities when they used it to pull down the Saddam Hussein statue in Baghdad on April 9, 2003. HERCULES uses a hull designed for the recovery mission and thoroughly proven by U.S. Army testing. Stability and performance are unmatched by any alternate tank-based design.

HERCULES offers operational and logistics commonality with the existing M88A1 fleet, simplifying training and parts availability. Key upgrades include improved power-assisted braking, improved steering, improved electrical system and increased engine horsepower.

HERCULES features overlay armor protection, ballistic skirts, a longer 35-ton boom, a 140,000-pound (63,504 kg) constant pull main winch with 280 feet of cable, and an auxiliary three-ton winch to aid main winch cable deployment. The M88A2 HERCULES is built and equipped to be the world's recovery champion.

PZD Mk24
Dss
The PZD MK24 represents the premier model in a newly developed category of PZD machine guns by DSS. This weapon system was designed to address the requirements of the 21st-century operator. The combination of the essential characteristics of a machine gun with the ergonomics and weight of an assault rifle represents a significant innovation in the field of weaponry.

The MK24 machine gun is distinguished by its lightweight yet robust recoil-reducing design, which enables the operator to effectively engage distant targets with precision and efficiency.

Another advantage is the minimalist design of the feeding device, which is characterized by a straightforward and efficient mechanism which ensures that accessories remain securely in place after zeroing and firing. The whole receiver in combination with the continuous Picatinny rails, was specifically designed as a free float in the barrel area for enhanced heat dissipation.

Key features are a quick-change barrel and a select fire trigger that allows single shots are standard.
A reduction in weight of 30% in comparison to other light machine guns in the same category enables each operator to carry a greater quantity of ammunition or other essential materials.

EMI / RFI Braided Cable Shielding / Tubular Expandable Braided Cable Sleeving / Ground Straps
Glenair
Metal braided sleeving and tubular expandable braided cable shielding is used primarily in the electrical wire interconnect industry to protect cables from electrostatic and electromagnetic interference. The interwoven conductive wire acts as a ground-path barrier that attenuates cable electrical field interference. In addition, both metallic and non-metallic braided shielding provides abrasion and cut protection for critical wiring, a particular concern in environments, such as aircraft, where vibration or other forms of rough handling may result in damage to individual wire conductors and cable bundles.

Glenair manufactures the world's most innovative line of metal, monofilament non-metallic, and microfilament composite and stainless steel braiding solutions for environmental, mechanical, and EMC shielding in interconnect cable assemblies. Our industry-leading ArmorLite braided shielding is manufactured from ultra-lightweight stainless steel microfilaments, metal-clad for optimal conductivity and EMI/RFI shielding. Our AmberStrand tubular braided shielding is built from a lightweight composite thermoplastic microfilament, with or without additional metal filaments and plated for outstanding grounding and shielding protection.

From high-temperature fiberglass tubular shielding for engine applications to ultra-lightweight EMI/RFI braided shielding for electrical wire interconnect grounding applications, Glenair offers the industry's most innovative range of solutions.

JetWave MCX
Honeywell Aerospace Technologies
Global Wideband Connectivity for Mission Success
Honeywell’s JetWave MCX satellite communications system delivers the world’s most advanced high-speed SATCOM capabilities needed for the most demanding mission profiles. It enables global in-flight broadband data connectivity on nearly any Ka-band network – including Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) network, Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS), and other commercial and military Ka-band networks – making it truly network-agnostic for the most extensive global coverage.

Built on proven, high-speed JetWave technology, JetWave MCX utilizes a wider frequency band (29-31 GHz Tx and 19.2-21.2 GHz Rx), offering access to commercial and military Ka-bands globally. And the dual polarity configuration provides increased bandwidth in high-traffic areas while meeting high-data uplink requirements that military and government operators require. JetWave MCX is designed with “future-proofing” in mind, exceeding current connectivity requirements while enabling expanded customer connectivity needs in the future.

For the unique requirements of military and government operators, JetWave MCX can enable a wide variety of mission-critical applications, such as en-route mission communications, real-time weather, in-flight video conferencing, large file transfer, in-flight mission planning and briefings, ISR video transmission, and secure communications. We offer specialized data packages for ISR missions, making use of the increased upload speed capabilities. Single-IP address network-switching capabilities enable seamless connectivity for users globally, while access to resilient modem waveforms offers additional security and jam-resistance in hostile environments.

JetWave MCX’s high-bandwidth capabilities can transform the aircraft into an “airborne communications node” by receiving data simultaneously from multiple sources – such as UAVs or ground forces – then processing and amalgamating the data for airborne Command and Control or for transmission to ground control.

No matter the mission profile, JetWave MCX offers the resiliency, bandwidth, and network-agnostic capabilities needed to enable mission success.

Our chain jack shiplift technology is the gold standard in accuracy, reliability, and sustained value over the 40+ year service life you can expect from your investment. Why?

Fewer Moving Parts → Less Maintenance → Less Downtime → More Revenue & Less Hassle. Win-Win.

Maintenance-prone items, such as variable frequency drives (VFDs) susceptible to overheating, gearboxes, brakes, bearings, sheaves, and wire ropes, are nowhere to be found in our shiplift designs. Neither is environmental pollution caused by submerging greased wire ropes and sheaves. And our chain based system will never experience a failure resulting from a rope skipping a sheave, snagging, and breaking due to debris lodged in the submerged lower sheaves. This risk is unique to operating a wire rope shiplift block underwater that does not normally occur with other similar types of marine or land based wire rope lifting equipment. Modern-day genius at its simple best.

For the modern warfighter, connectivity is more than a communications line. It’s a lifeline when the certainty of secure communications means everything. It’s also why we invented the Scramble Code Multiple Access (SCMA) waveform to protect SATCOM transmissions in every theater – on a helicopter, aboard an RPA, on the water and on the ground.

Built into our HM System, the SCMA waveform sets apart our software-defined satellite ground capability for military applications. It’s enabled industry firsts, like through-the-rotor, multi-megabit data transmission; multi-orbit SATCOM to and from RPAs; and on-demand, satellite-enabled cellular connectivity for emergency comms.

APKWS® laser-guidance kit
BAE Systems

Filling the weapons gap and increasing platform firepower

The U.S. Government’s only program of record for 2.75”/70mm guided rockets, our APKWS guidance kit transforms unguided 2.75-inch (70 millimeter) rockets like the Hydra 70 Mk 66 and others into precision-guided munitions (PGMs). Qualified on numerous U.S. Department of War (DoW) platforms, APKWS laser guidance kits provide affordable surgical-strike capability to multiple rotary-wing and fixed-wing platforms, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles, static and mounted ground platforms, and maritime vessels.

The APKWS system bridges the gap between unguided rockets and larger anti-armor munitions with commonality across the U.S. military services – Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force. The APKWS system consistently delivers pinpoint accuracy for the highest lethality available against soft and lightly-armored targets at a lower cost than other systems.

Greater strike range with unmatched precision lethality

With the category’s highest combat-proven hit rate, APKWS guidance kit equipped rocket consistently hit their intended target with pinpoint accuracy while limiting collateral damage. The guidance section is designed to lock onto targets from over 6 kilometers away, supporting survivability and mission success by keeping your launch platform at a safe standoff distance from threats. The guidance kit’s Single Variant Block Upgrade optimized flight trajectory so the rocket can hit targets at a steeper angle of attack for enhanced lethality.

Innovative by design, the APKWS kit includes advanced Distributed Aperture Semi-Active Laser Seeker (DASALS) optics located on all four guidance wings, which are protected by wing-slot seals prior to firing, avoiding adjacent fire damage that can interfere with a nose mount seeker. Once the rocket is fired, the APKWS kit’s wings deploy and the optics lock on to designated targets, guiding the rocket to the target – delivering accurate strikes and minimizing collateral damage when and where it matters most.

  • Wing slot seals protect optics from adjacent firings, sand, and moisture prior to launch to ensure no damage or debris inhibit the seeker from locking onto targets
  • Optics lock on to moving or stationary targets in open or confined areas, supporting a wide variety of missions, and reducing any chance of a lost or uncontrolled rocket after launch
  • 40-degree instantaneous field of regard enables a broad capture area for the rocket to adjust mid-flight and stay on track to its target

Cost effective, easy to integrate, and more capable than ever

First put into production in 2008, the APKWS laser-guidance kit proved to be one of the most accurate, effective, and easy to implement systems in the world for converting unguided rockets into laser-guided rockets (LGR).  Today’s system has also proven itself capable in air-to-air targeting of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and low-flying cruise missiles – as part of a counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) – as well as in ground-to-ground lethality fired from launchers mounted on vehicles and remote weapon stations.

Mission and platform flexibility, as well as its light weight and low cost of integration, makes our APKWS system one of the most highly capable and useful combat weapons available to every department of the U.S. DoW and to U.S. allies. In fact, since its introduction, over 100,000 APKWS units have been sold for service worldwide.

Production-ready for high demand

APKWS guidance kits are readily available. Demand from the U.S. military and international governments is high, and BAE Systems is well-positioned to support that demand. Our state-of-the-art factories in Hudson, New Hampshire and Austin, Texas continue to produce and deliver with available excess capacity, supported by our robust supply chain, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and recent investments of over $100 million in infrastructure improvements. We offer a manufacturing capacity of at least 25,000 units per year, and are continuing to expand production.

With most of our supply chain in the United States, our centralized approach, and focus on delivering zero defects, we are optimizing overall production and delivery efficiency, which shows in our:

  • Over 12 years in full-rate production
  • More than 100,000 units delivered to date
  • Proven ability to surge capacity, accelerating the delivery of over a thousand units ahead of schedule.

Hermetic Connectors
Glenair
Hermetic connectors are a special class of sealed Mil /Aero interconnect that incorporates glass-to-metal or other highly-engineered sealing technology. Hermetic seal connectors are specified for applications as divergent as submarines and orbiting satellites. They are deployed to resist moisture ingress in underground applications and to withstand pressure differentials in vacuum chambers, laboratory equipment and commercial and military aircraft.

Hermetic seal connectors, such as the MIL-DTL-38999 Series I, II, III and IV supplied by Glenair, are principally designed for use in military aerospace — in fact, the sealing requirement for connector hermeticity was originally driven by military electronic applications. But the products are equally at home in commercial applications such as oil-patch, logging equipment or medical devices.

Teledyne e2v Achieves Initial Qualification of 16GB Space DDR4 Memory
Teledyne e2v Semiconductors is pleased to announce the successful initial qualification of its 16GB Space DDR4 memory, marking a key milestone in the advancement of high-reliability memory solutions for space-grade applications.

This 16GB DDR4 device is part of Teledyne e2v’s growing portfolio of radiation-tolerant memory products, which includes the 8GB DDR4 variant qualified last year. Doubling the capacity while maintaining the same form factor and pin compatibility, the 16GB version offers seamless integration into next-generation satellite systems without requiring hardware redesign.

The initial qualification confirms the long-term reliability and robustness of the 16GB DDR4 product. It was validated through extensive testing across three statistically significant production lots, ensuring both process consistency and performance reproducibility, critical factors for mission assurance in space environments.

Conducted in accordance with the stringent JESD47 standard, the initial qualification campaign included a comprehensive suite of reliability assessments to simulate the harsh conditions encountered in orbit, verifying the product’s resilience to temperature fluctuations, mechanical stress, and radiation exposure.

“This milestone is foundational,” said Thomas Guillemain, Marketing and Business Development Manager at Teledyne e2v. “It demonstrates that our 16GB DDR4 memory is not only reliable but also supported by a robust and repeatable assembly process. Following the successful qualification of Teledyne e2v’s 16GB Space DDR4 memory, the company has now entered the Flight Model (FM) production phase. Our first FMs - Teledyne e2v X1, designed for New Space and LEO missions - will ship this October, while NASA 1 Flight Models are on track for Q3 2026. Customers can now place orders to secure delivery for upcoming missions.”

As the previous generation, this memory solution is designed to be compatible with a wide range of space-grade processing platforms. Engineered to support the demands of modern, data-intensive space missions, from Earth observation to edge computing in orbit, it delivers the performance and reliability required for the most critical applications.

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), a leading provider of advanced imaging solutions, is proud to announce the release of three variants of industrial CMOS sensors, with resolutions ranging from 1.3MP up to 67MP, following a delta space qualification methodology and radiation testing. These industrial image sensors are designed, manufactured and tested in Grenoble-France and Seville-Spain and upscreened for space in the Grenoble facilities. The Upscreened Variants (USV) are intended to be suitable for new space applications such as Earth observation and remote sensing payloads, star trackers, monitoring cameras, and cameras for space suits, rovers, moon landers, and space situational or domain awareness. These new products complement Teledyne’s ongoing offerings for demanding science and defense missions by providing options for the less rigorous New Space market.

“Within the New Space industry, some system designers may use COTS sensors and make them fly with no upscreening, which means that they take the risk of any malfunctions or errors further down the line,” explains Céline Semécas, Product Marketing Manager, Teledyne e2v. “Teledyne e2v’s industrial upscreened image sensors are tested for space and are delivered as flight models with lot validation test certificates and radiation test reports.”

The three CMOS sensors will undergo full screening, serialization and lot validation tests. Depending on the mission profile, they are delivered as flight models with two levels of screening, according to U1 (ESCC9020-like) or U3 (NASA Class 3 tailored for image sensors). Devices were sampled and have been through radiation characterization in specialized facilities, including testing for Single Event Latch-up (SEL), Single Event Effect (SEE), and Single Event Functional Interrupt (SEFI) malfunctions or errors. The image sensors feature a broad range of embedded functions, including sub-sampling, multi-region of interest (ROI), defective pixel correction, and high dynamic range capability.

For satellite star trackers and monitoring cameras, the Ruby 1.3M USV is a radiation tolerant 1.3MP (1280 x 1024) global shutter sensor optimized for space systems that are subject to constraints, such as size, weight and power (SWaP) and cost. Housed in a 12.7mm x 12.7mm CLCC packaging, this 5.3µm pixel pitch sensor can fit with cost-effective 1/1.8” lenses, consumes very low (≤200mW) power, and is available in a monochrome or colour version.

The Emerald Gen2 12M USV is a compact 12MP (4096 x 3072) global shutter imaging sensor for monitoring cameras with a 2.8µm pitch, and available in monochrome and colour versions. It features a very low readout noise performance of less than 3 electrons, delivering excellent image quality and the ability to work in high-contrast scenes. It has ROI features, enabling Teledyne e2v to offer an 8.9MP ROI image sensor in the same packaging, allowing space engineers to make even smaller cameras because they can use smaller optics. This sensor also features both LVDS and MIPI outputs, which ease the integration.

The Emerald 67M USV is a 67MP (8192 x 8192) image sensor that features one of the smallest global shutter pixel pitches (2.5µm) on the market. This 8K high-resolution device can cover a large swath for Earth observation and is also suitable for space domain awareness applications, allowing them to cover a large field of view. Emerald 67M USV combines low noise (<3e- @ 12 bits), providing excellent image quality in low light conditions, and up to 65 fps @10 bits, providing sharp images at very high speed. The image sensor can support monochrome or colour video and can be used for multispectral imaging.

Teledyne e2v provides a full range of tools to ease system integration of the CMOS sensors and accelerate time-to-market. These tools include evaluation kits, reference designs, radiation reports and space qualification reports. “With a dedicated support team and quick response times, Teledyne e2v in Grenoble supports space engineers from design concept to system launch,” adds Céline Semécas. “Furthermore, Teledyne e2v is used to managing long-term supplies with applications that require long product life cycles and obsolescence management.”

During SmallSat Europe 2025, Europe's leading event dedicated to small satellites, which will take place on May 27 and 28 at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam, visitors to the Teledyne stand, at booth 737, can watch a live demo showcasing the performance characteristics of the new Emerald Gen2 12M USV upscreened image sensors.

Collaborative EU Project Set to Deliver Breakthrough in Space Imaging Sensing
A consortium funded by the European Union (EU) is developing advanced high-resolution image sensing technology that could be used in a variety of space missions, including Earth observation, planetary exploration, and scientific research.

The three-year Technology for European iNdependence in Space Image Sensor (TENSIS) project will address the EU-based development of advanced CMOS imaging sensors. The project will aim to create a strategic, competitive advantage for European prime and equipment manufacturers and reduce the dependence on critical technologies and capabilities from outside the EU.

The program was launched on 11 February 2025 at an inauguration event in consortium member Teledyne e2v facilities in Saint-Egrève, Grenoble Area, France. It aims to validate a scalable, large-area, high-resolution, radiation tolerant, customizable, and affordable 180nm CMOS detector, with the key technical characteristics of a 24K x 16K stitched CMOS matrix of 400MPixels. A smaller 4K x 4K stitched CMOS array will also be designed and manufactured.

The project comprises several industrial partners, each of whom brings valuable expertise. Teledyne e2v Semiconductors SAS (France) and Teledyne Innovaciones Microelectronicas SL (Spain) will oversee the project, design the detectors, including the pixel, while imec (Belgium) will manage the development of the optical stack on top of the CMOS detector including filters and optical microlenses.

Meanwhile, Airbus Defence and Space SAS (France) will lead the development of the test equipment and assess the performance of the detector prototypes. Alter Technology Tüv Nord (Spain) will validate the smaller 4K x 4K detector for use in the space environment.

“TENSIS will result in the development of advanced image sensors for space that are high-resolution and durable against space conditions,” says Marc Iliozer, Project & Engineering Director at Teledyne e2v. “The project will help establish strategic capability in Europe and ensure independence in space technology for years to come.”

The project will run until 31 December 2027. The 24k x 16k stitched CMOS array is expected to reach Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6, with a prototype sensor tested in a relevant environment. The 4k x 4k CMOS detector will reach TRL7, taking it one step closer to final product development.

For Fifth Year in a Row, North Carolina Ranks in Top Three States to Do Business
Today, CNBC named North Carolina as second best state to do business and in the top three for the fifth year in a row thanks to our well-trained and diverse workforce, booming economy, and strong business environment. In 2019, North Carolina ranked third; in 2021, the state ranked second; and in both 2022 and 2023 North Carolina ranked first.

“Investing in our people makes our continued success possible,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “Thanks to our highly-skilled workforce built by our strong public schools and thriving economy with major investments from companies across all sectors, North Carolina continues to be a top destination for business.”

“CNBC again ranking North Carolina as one of the top states for business in the nation is a testament to our state’s competitive advantages,” said N.C. Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders. “Successful states stay laser focused on improving their education systems, upgrading their infrastructure, and paying attention to critical quality of life issues like childcare. I’m confident we’ll continue to do the work that’s required to bring economic prosperity to all North Carolinians.”

“North Carolina continues to be a powerhouse for business,” said Gene McLaurin, chair of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina’s (EDPNC) Board of Directors. “Thanks to strong collaboration between Governor Cooper, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, EDPNC and other public and private partnerships, we are bolstering North Carolina’s economy to make sure companies continue to grow and thrive in our state.”

The CNBC study looks at 128 metrics in ten categories of competitiveness. North Carolina ranked #3 in workforce and highly in the economy, business friendliness, education and access to capital categories. This is the fifth year in a row that CNBC has named North Carolina in the top three states for business.

Since Governor Cooper took office in 2017, North Carolina has announced over 115,300 jobs and promised capital investments of $53.45 billion, including major projects from companies like Apple, Toyota, Wolfspeed, FUJIFILM Diosynth, and Boom Supersonic. North Carolina continues to recruit good-paying jobs to add to the advanced manufacturing, clean energy and technology industries already thriving in the rural and urban parts of the state.

Governor Cooper has prioritized economic development to secure major investments and good-paying jobs in North Carolina. In May, the Governor led a delegation of state officials to Europe on an economic development trip and met with companies and government officials in France, Germany and Switzerland. In October, North Carolina will host the 2024 Southeast U.S./Japan Association 46th annual joint meeting to encourage foreign direct investment from Japanese companies, as well as strengthen export ties for North Carolina and other Southeastern companies selling goods in Japan.

Governor Cooper is focused on making investments in North Carolina’s strong workforce and public schools to build on the state’s continued economic growth. In May 2021, the Governor launched the Longleaf Commitment Community College Grants Program that ensures that recent high school graduates from low- and middle-income families will receive at least $2,800 in federal and state grants to cover tuition and most fees at any of the state’s 58 community colleges. In July 2018, the Governor announced the Finish Line Grants Program to help community college students who face unforeseen financial emergencies complete their training.

The Governor has declared 2024 as The Year of Public Schools and has been traveling across North Carolina to celebrate the great things happening in public schools and call on the legislature to make meaningful investments in them instead of funneling more taxpayer money into unaccountable private school vouchers. Earlier this year, the Governor announced his FY24-25 budget that would raise teacher pay by 8.5% and invest over $1 billion in public schools while placing a moratorium on taxpayer-funded private school vouchers.

In December 2023, Medicaid expansion was implemented in North Carolina to extend health care coverage to over 600,000 people while bringing billions in federal dollars to the state. The agreement to expand Medicaid followed years of coalition-building by the Governor to bring people from all corners of the state together to highlight the critical need for health care in every community. Veterans, early childhood educators, restaurant workers, nursing home workers are all among the groups that often fall into the coverage gap and sometimes have to work two or more jobs to afford health care. As of July 2024, nearly 500,000 North Carolinians now have enrolled to gain access to critical health care.

North Carolina’s biggest room for improvement in CNBC’s rankings is in the “Quality of Life” category, which includes affordability and availability of childcare, access to reproductive healthcare and rights, and voting rights. North Carolina received a D+ grade in these metrics. While the North Carolina General Assembly provided critical but limited grants to help keep childcare centers open for the next few months, Governor Cooper continues to push Republican legislators to make the investments needed for parents, businesses and children by extending these grants, investing in NC Pre K and investing more in quality early childhood education. As CNBC’s methodology confirms, North Carolina’s economic future depends on it.

North Carolina Ranked America's Top State for Doing Business Again in 2023
North Carolina tops CNBC’s state business competitiveness rankings for the second year in a row as workers flock to take advantage of a booming economy and the growing operations of companies including Apple within the state .At a time when companies are clamoring for workers while trying to navigate a treacherous economy, no state is meeting their needs more effectively than North Carolina. The Tar Heel State is America’s Top State for Business in CNBC’s annual competitiveness study.

It is the second consecutive year at the top for North Carolina — a rare feat in the CNBC study, which launched in 2007. Business and the economy in the state have been on a tear since the pandemic, and the state has scarcely looked back.

In 2023 alone, the state has amassed a trophy case full of economic development wins, ranging from a $130 million investment by Bosch to expand its power tool manufacturing facility in Lincolnton, to a $458 million biomanufacturing facility to be built in Greensboro by cellular therapeutics company ProKidney, and even a $58 million turkey production facility in Goldsboro by poultry breeder Select Genetics.

The projects come on top of major wins last year, including Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast announcing it will build its first North American plant in the state, and Durham-based semiconductor materials manufacturer Wolfspeed expanding its operations there.

Last month, Apple filed applications to begin work on its $1 billion facility in the famed Research Triangle Park announced in 2021, with 700,000 square feet of office space in its initial phase. It is Apple’s first hub on the East Coast.

A common thread through all the projects is people.

“Our talented, educated workers are the foundation of our economic success,” said Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, in his state of the state address in March.

The numbers bear that out. North Carolina ranks first in the all-important Workforce category of CNBC’s study. In particular, the state is a leader in attracting and retaining talent across a range of industries, said Josh Wright, an executive vice president with labor market analytics firm Lightcast, which provided some of the data for the CNBC study.
